Most Dangerous Toys 2018

World Against Toys Causing Harm, a public safety group that keeps an eye on hazardous children’s products, has released its list of the top 10 most dangerous toys for 2018. The list of harmful toys is created annually in response to the number of toy-related injuries and accidents that have occurred in recent years. From 2014 to 2016, 35 children died due to toy-related accidents. In 2016 alone 240,000 kids were injured because of toys. Families and caregivers should be aware of this list so they can remove these toys from their homes and protect their children.

Toys with Choking and Strangulation Hazards

Despite decades of concerns over products with small parts, multiple toys on the list present a choking hazard. Specifically, Cabbage Patch Kids Dance Time Doll, NCI Wonderland Doll: MiniClara the Ballerina and Vtech’s Zoo Jamz Zylophone have parts that can be removed and ingested, creating a choking hazard. Additionally, Chien a Promener Pull Along Dog creates a risk of entanglement and strangulation because of its long cord.

Toys with Eye Injury or Trauma Hazards

Several of the toys on the list create a risk for blunt force trauma, eye injuries or other impact injuries. Many of these are toys that shoot rockets or discs, such as the Nerf Vortex VTX Praxis Blaster Gun or the Stomp Rocket Ultra Rocket. Others, like the Marvel Black Panther Claw or the Super Ninja Steel Superstar Blade, tempt children to use in an unsafe manner, increasing the risk of injuries in children. A cutting fruit set with a hard plastic knife also made the list, as the knife could cause blunt force injuries or puncture wounds.

Battery and Ingestion Hazard

The final toy on the list, the Nickelodeon Nella Princess Knight Pillow Pet, a light-up pillow pet toy, has batteries that may leak acid. It also has removable accessories that could be swallowed, creating an ingestion hazard.

Protecting Children from Toy Hazards

Lawyers in Las Vegas often help parents protect their children from toys that cause harm by holding manufacturers liable for the damage their negligence causes. To help keep kids safe, parents should also be proactive. They should monitor toy recalls, avoid toy designs that encourage unsafe actions, watch for parts that are small enough to fit in a child’s mouth, and report hazardous toys to the CPSC.
